On 6th December 2007, the third European Publishers’ Forum was held in Brussels, bringing together senior publishing figures and representatives of the European Commission. Co-organised by the Media Task Force of the Commmission with the five European publishing associations (books, directories, newspapers and magazines), the event was hosted by Commissioner Viviane Reding and was built around three panel discussions focusing on evolving business practices in digital publishing.
In her key-note speech, Commissioner Reding reiterated her support for Europe’s publishing sector and reconfirmed her support to resist any advertising bans from other Commission departments.
Afternoon Question and Answer discussions focused on advertising self-regulation and VAT for the press.
With over 100 participants, the event was considered a good success, its main aim being to educate the EU decision-makers about the innovative business practices and the investments publishers are making in the online world.
